DA.AI’s Eco Blanket Sends Blessings and Love to the World

In 1990, Dharma Master Cheng Yen, the founder of Tzu Chi Foundation, urged all Tzu Chi volunteers to “engage in environmental protection work with their applauding hands.” Ever since then, besides actively promoting and engaging in recycling and sorting recyclables, many Tzu Chi volunteers joined the environment protection mission to apply environmental protection concept into their daily lives. In 2003, Master Cheng Yen further encouraged entrepreneur disciples to research and develop in fields of food, clothing, housing, transportation, information and communication, and eco-friendly to be used in international relief. Thus, Tzu Chi International Humanitarian Aid Association (TIHAA) was formed later this year.

With entrepreneurs’ strength, TIHAA successfully converted the non-biodegradable plastic bottles into eco-friendly blankets in 2006. As of today, these blankets have been distributed to people in need during winter distributions and disaster relief missions around the world, benefitting more than 950,000 people and families. Through innovative research, DA.AI was established in 2008, and carried on the mission of delicate eco-textile and sustainable environment.

DA.AI's recycled chip, yarn and grey eco blanket have received water and carbon footprint certification from Germany’s TÜV Rheinland and carbon footprint certification from Taiwan EPA. The grey eco blanket also received Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Silver Certified™ by C2C Products Innovation Institute (C2CPII) and Japan Eco Mark. With innovative design and humanistic concept, DA.AI received lots of recognitions inland and abroad, such as Taiwan Excellence Award, SME Innovation Award, Green Classic Award, MIT smile Label and so on. In 2016, the Energy Globe Award National Winner of Taiwan goes to Tzu Chi’s disaster relief eco blanket as “the best answer” to not only recycles plastic bottle waste, but also sends blessings and love to the entire world.
