Twenty years ago, the former community director of Gongliao District, Xu-Wu Que, was deeply moved by Master Cheng Yen’s recycling vision and personally gathered recyclables despite of opposition. To help raise environmental awareness in the community, the former community director established the Tzu Chi Gongliao recycling station. We now take you to meet some of the seniors there.

Central and south Taiwan is facing one of the worst droughts in years. As reservoirs begin to dry up, the government has plans to begin imposing water rationing. Thus it is ever more important for everyone to cherish every drop of water. Before we hear some household water saving tips from a Tzu Chi kindergarten teacher in Malaysia’s Johor Bahru, we first see how Wangxi Elementary School of New Taipei City manages to save over 23,000 tons of water a year by recycling rainwater.

Meanwhile in Seattle, Washington of the United States, local Tzu Chi volunteers were invited to take part in the 2015 Vegfest.

Continuing on our topic of environmental protection; Tzu Chi’s recycling stations serve not only as a place where recyclables can be taken, but an education center as well. Recently students from Taiwan and Malaysia visited their respective recycling stations to learn more about sorting and categorizing recyclables and how they can apply these lessons in their daily life.

慈少淨灘樂彎腰 還海洋美麗面貌

美國加州大東洛的慈少團隊，上周(3/23)到曼哈頓海灘淨灘，105位慈少有家長及慈濟志工陪同，共計161人，大家彎腰淨灘的身影，受到不少遊客的好奇詢問。當他們知道慈濟以疼惜地球而努力，都表達讚歎之意。
陽光沙灘海浪，曼哈頓海灘，已經迎接春天、迎接遊客。不過，大東洛的慈少團隊，這身裝扮，不是以遊玩為目的。
105名慈少，加上家長、與慈濟志工，共161人，大家漫步沙灘，為淨灘而彎腰。
家長 高大昭：「我們感到最高興的是，有很多的群眾，老百姓問我們說，你們是哪個單位，我說我們是慈濟，他們都對我們豎起大拇指，我們也教育了所有在這邊玩的，一些遊客們，他們不會亂丟東西，也間接地愛護地球。」
捨一點休閒的時間、換一片清淨的空間，敬天愛地大家一起來。

菲律賓馬萊汶市頓蘇亞里(TONSUYA/ MALABON)，因人為縱火，導致二人死亡，八百多個家庭受到波及，慈濟志工勘災後，前往發放，儘管當天風大，吹垮了帳棚，但災民們依舊靜心聆聽，一同祈禱。
發放當天，強勁的風力，數度吹垮帳棚，災民和志工合力搶救，風實在太大了，最後只好放棄，災民們頂著大太陽，坐在台下聆聽志工介紹慈濟，沒有人離開，在一同祈禱時，威廉還掉了淚，在上一次的火災，他就曾與志工相遇。
災民 威廉：「在2006年也曾發生火災，我們都記得當時是慈濟志工來到這發放，幫助我們，就像現在這樣。」
因有人惡意縱火，造成頓蘇亞里八百多間房子被燒毀，還有二人不幸往生，瑪莉凱特就是因此失去了母親，難過的心情，現在已經能安定下來。
災民 瑪莉凱特：「我現在心很安定，因為有這些物資的幫助，我有自信能好好安排母親的葬禮。」
志工為往者家屬送上慰問金，對於受災的居民，則是提供生活用品和大米，有十七位社區志工協助發放，他們也更能感受捐錢助人的歡喜。
志工 吉娜：「非常開心我們能幫助不幸的人，沒想到我每天存一披索，能幫助到這麼多人。」
志工 蓓斯：「雖然這些物資不是我們買的，但是由我們送到災民手中，同樣能感受到，這種歡喜也是很深的。」
愛的能量，在施與受之間流動，也一同面對傷痛。
