Environmental Education Without Borders

On April 24, a group of students from Thailand and the Philippines help to clean Seven Star Beach in Hualien. Through the event, they learn the importance of recycling and sorting recyclables. DA.AI Technology is invited to give a talk on transforming PET bottles into textile products. On April 24, Tzu Chi volunteers accompanied a group of students fromThailandand thePhilippinesto cleanSevenStarBeachin Hualien. The students worked hard to pick up any trash they saw on the beautiful beach. It was like a treasure hunt for them as they concentrated on finding trash. The beach became clean after two short hours. The event not only taught the students not to litter, it also taught them that each individual could help in creating a clean planet.

DA.AI Technology (DA.AI) was invited to give a talk after the event ended. Huang Yenlu, a staff at DA.AI, talked about the importance and impact of environmental protection and global warming, and the concepts of reuse, reduce and recycle. Huang explained Dharma Master Cheng Yen’s concept of transforming trash into gold and showed the students how to transform PET bottles into the eco-shirt he was wearing. The students were amazed at how plastic bottles could be transformed into clothing products.

During the talk, the students learned that recycling could help to reduce consumption of resources and they also learned that recyclables could be transformed into textile products to help the people in need. At the end of the talk, the students were all raising their hands to answer quiz questions from Huang. In a short afternoon, the seeds of “Coexist with the Earth” were planted in each of their heart.  The students raise their hands to answer questions towards the end of the talk.

“I will encourage my family to recycle.”
“I will not drink drinks using plastic bottles.”
“I will share what I experienced inTaiwanwith my friends and family.”
These were the afterthoughts of the students who participated in this event. We wish that through the event, these students now have an in-depth knowledge about environmental protection.
