DA.AI Humanitarianism in WHO Seminar

The seminar was held in Nepal Kathmandu Yak & Yeti Hotel to exchange experience on waste disposal management and resource utilization. WHO representatives from 10 countries, a totally of over 60 professionals from the Health Care Without Harm (HCWM) and Himalayan Children’s Foundation (HCF) of Nepal, gathered and shared knowledge on medical waste treatment.

Medical experts from all regions shared their experiences on policy, process, outcome and practice of medical waste management in their countries, and how disposed waste are properly treated to ensure public health and environmental safety. Representative of WHO Southeast Asia Regional Office of Nepal, Dr. Jos Vandelaer, said with concern that "as much as 1 million tons of medical waste is generated in the Southeast Asian medical institutions per day." Dr. Lin Ming Nan also added “compare to other waste, medical waste treatment is more important. Furthermore, incineration should be carefully considered due to possible carbon emission that adds to global warming.”

HCF Executive Deputy Director, Suman Raut shared, "when meeting Tzu Chi people in Taiwan, they are enthusiastic and always willing to help, so I also learned to contribute to others." He put into action right away by helping a poor woman to hold her baby. Putting words to action of love is precisely the humanitarianism that Tzu Chi and DA.AI would like to communicate in the seminar and to the whole world.
