Soccer stars wear green

After one month of soccer fever worldwide, the 2010 FIFA World Cup finally came to an end on July 11th. While watching the games, you might have admired the players' phenomenal ball skills or amazing team spirit, but did you pay attention to the soccer jerseys that they were wearing? Nine countries, including the Netherlands, who were runners-up in this World Cup, wore light and highly breathable jerseys, made from recycled plastic bottles that were reprocessed in Taiwan. The production process of these eco-friendly textiles consumes less energy than traditional fabrics.

Nine of the World Cup soccer teams, including Brazil, Portugal and the Netherlands, wore soccer shirts processed from recycled plastic bottles. The eco-textiles were made in Taiwan.
Textile Research Institute deputy director, Lian Rongsheng :" Our exceptional quality control has been recognized by international brands. Taiwan has developed textiles that are good enough to make the soccer shirts for the FIFA World Cup."
Most of Taiwan's major textile companies have already invested around a decade of research and development into reprocessing plastic bottles into polyester fibers.

However, as the used bottles need to be individually hand-washed, without sufficient manpower it is difficult to produce quality yarns through the eco-friendly method. But one company- Da Ai Technology- enjoys an advantage other companies don't have: a very reliable bottle provider.
Textile Research Institute deputy director, Lian Rongsheng :" The Da Ai Technology sources its plastic bottles from 4,500 Tzu Chi recycling stations around Taiwan. The containers get cleaned very thoroughly, and that part contributes directly to the high quality of the textiles. "

The more than 60,000 recycling volunteers around Taiwan are the people Da Ai Technology has to thank for.
Da Ai Technology director, Huang Huade :" The volunteers sort the bottles into different categories and remove any unnecessary parts- a crucial step in keeping the rejection rate to a minimum in the post-production. "
Huang Huade, the director of Da Ai Technology, is wearing an eco-friendly shirt, made from used bottles and old coffee grounds. The quick drying garment not only minimizes body odor, but also resist UV rays. The production of the green textiles emits relatively little emissions, too.
Textile Research Institute deputy director, Lian Rongsheng :" The production of textiles from used bottles produces at least 30 percent less emissions than traditional textiles. It's better for the environment and that's also why we hope that more and more people will opt for the eco-friendly clothing."

Taiwan and Japan are two world leaders in reprocessing plastic bottles into textiles; the Taiwan based Tzu Chi Foundation commonly uses the process to make blankets for disaster relief. The green textile technology is definitely making a strong statement in environmental protection.
這一個月來，世界盃足球賽風靡全球，7月11日正式落幕，而在看比賽的同時，您可能都在欣賞球員神奇的球技、或是那股卓越的團隊精神，但是您曾注意球員身上所穿的球衣嗎？來自九個國家的隊伍，包括這次世界盃亞軍的荷蘭他們所穿的球衣的布料，都是用來自台灣回收再製的寶特瓶，而這些寶特瓶衣料的製作過程，二氧化碳排放量比傳統布料還要少。
巴西、葡萄牙、荷蘭等九支世界盃球隊的球衣，是用寶特瓶回收製成的，而這環保的布料來自台灣。
「我們在這方面的品質管控非常好，能夠讓國際品牌認同，台灣的布料已經可以達到他們的要求，符合世界盃足規格的球衣。」
台灣的紡織大廠幾乎都有投資約有十年的時間，研發將寶特瓶抽絲，聚合成化學纖維的技術，然而寶特瓶的清洗需要大量人力，否則布料的良率就會受損，不過，大愛感恩科技公司比別家公司多了一項優勢，它有一個很棒的寶特瓶供應商。
「像大愛感恩科技公司的寶特瓶就是來自全台4500慈濟回收站，分類清洗、非常的完整，所以布料的良率就會比較高。」
因此，全台六萬多名環保志工，就成了大愛感恩科技公司的後盾。
「志工把寶特瓶分類，把不必要的東西拆除，讓我們在後面的製程裡面，提高良率。」
大愛感恩科技公司董事長黃華德身上所穿的這一件環保衫還加了咖啡渣，能防臭、排汗、防紫外線，寶特瓶回收的紡織品製造過程裡，碳排放量也是相對的低。
「用寶特瓶回收做成紡織品，二氧化碳的排放可以減少百分之三十以上，對地球來講比較好，所以我們希望大家能多多愛用回收的紡織品。」
將寶特瓶纖維細緻化的技術，目前在世界上領先地位的是台灣和日本，而台灣的慈濟基金會也將這個環保素材製成毛毯，做為賑災之用，這項綠色紡織科技保護環境，不遺餘力。
