Environmentally-themed summer camp

What is a productive way to enjoy summer break? Well, Taiwan's Ministry of Education has come up with one solution: by organizing a summer retreat, led by college students, for underprivileged students, to help promote the concept of recycling. For a short time, the students of Wu Jie Primary school became inventors of eco-friendly products.

These students are racking their brains to come up with an original design. Utilizing old Tetra-Paks, an envelope is fashioned. The children, here at the Wu Jie Primary School, are making environmental Father's Day cards, and learning to value everything for all its worth.

Wu Jieguo Primary school student, Li Ziyang:"My dad has always been there for us. I must show him my gratitude."

Wu Jieguo Primary school student, Rui Qi:"This is good because it's biodegradable and saves money."

Not a single recyclable is wasted. One child made a picture frame from an unwanted cardboard box. Another student turned a discarded milk carton into a hand-held lantern. A paper windmill was created, too.

Environmentally-themed games also help the children become more acquainted with conservation methods.

Wu Jieguo Primary school student, Lin Xiangzhu:"We need to work together to succeed. Yes, it's lots of fun to play with and eco-friendly."

At a government-sponsored summer camp, 26 big brothers and sisters from Mingxin University of Science and Technology are familiarizing the students with the 3R's: "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle".

Mingxin Univ. Sci. and Tech. student, Lin Xueyong:"There are fewer and fewer natural resources in the world, and the global climate keeps fluctuating. So the children need to understand the importance of recycling and conservation."

For the students, this summer will be a memorable one, because they have become experts on preserving the planet.

Wu Jieguo Primary school student, Li Ziyang:「

Wu Jieguo Primary school student, Rui Qi:「

Wu Jieguo Primary school student, Lin Xiangzhu:「

Mingxin Univ. Sci. and Tech. student, Lin Xueyong:「
