To celebrate this meaningful day, Tzu Chi will hold the Buddha Bathing Ceremony in the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall just like every previous year. However, this will be the first year that five hundred young people participate in performing the sutra adaptations of “Path of Diligence Drums and Bells” during this large outdoor event, which they rehearsed a week before on May 7th, 2017.

The purpose of the Buddha Day Ceremony is not only to demonstrate the beauty of Tzu Chi as a group, but also inspire one’s compassionate heart and seek one’s pure innate nature. In addition to being young and fresh, touching stories lay among the Drums and Bells Performance volunteers. Learning the performance may be easy for most young volunteers, but for Lin Yuqi, who is hearing impaired, is difficult, and had to face this difficult task head on. Lin said, “I was so nervous and felt it is even more difficult than passing the college verification exam.” Yet she rehearsed for two months to get the body movement right, and now she can perform in the 6-minute performance with everyone else together.

Like all performing volunteers, she wears DA.AI’s special blue vest, and said, "I want to inspire more young people to stand out and know the spirit of integrity, compassion, and love.” On Mother’s Day, Buddha Day, and Tzu Chi Day, we hope everyone carries out the spirit of filial piety to their parents and do good deeds for the world. Through Buddha’s teachings to guide people to understand Dharma, we hope all mindsets are purified, and therefore achieve a harmonious society and bring about a world free of disaster.
