CAPTION: Tzu Chi volunteers are encouraged to cultivate themselves through doing recycling, caring neighborhood, concerning public relation and encouraging the neighborhoods to join the Great Love activities in their communities. They are recognizable by their grey polo shirts that are considered as community uniform for volunteers while serving others.Ever since early civilization, other than keeping warm and satisfying basic need of protection, the purpose of clothing also acted as cue of identity based on different uniform, such as religious clerics, doctors, nurses, policemen, firefighters and postmen, etc. Uniform color and accessory also convey cultural and social images. Over 50 years, Tzu Chi Foundation, gradually developed its “four missions and eight footprints” based on Great Love. Tzu Chi volunteers dedicated themselves in charity, medicine, education, humanitarianism, and ongoing efforts in bone marrow donation, environmental protection, community volunteerism, and international relief mission. Thus, DA.AI develops series of uniforms to accommodate Tzu Chi volunteer’s need, and represent diverse images for the group.

Community Volunteer campaign started in 1996, as Tzu Chi volunteers are encouraged to cultivate themselves through doing recycling, caring neighborhood, concerning public relation and encouraging the neighborhoods to join the Great Love activities in their communities. These volunteers and relief workers are recognizable by their grey polo shirts that are considered as community uniform for volunteers while serving others. DA.AI’s Grey Eco Shirt, with Bodhi leaf logo on the shirt pocket, conveys a distinctive meaning in Buddhism as well as in DA.AI’s garments. This eco piece is made by cooling yarn material that allows volunteers to work better even under the sun. Moreover, it’s breathability and easy to clean functionality make social service, such as visiting poor and needy or recycling, easier in summer.

Apart from making eco-friendly blankets for disaster relief and Grey Eco Polo Shirt for community volunteers, DA.AI also developed a series of apparel, including navy blue jackets, pants, gloves, and scarves, for Tzu Chi volunteers, and are all made by recycled PET bottles. The Grey Eco Shirt is part of DA.AI’s Cultivation Series that follows “doing good deed and cultivating virtue in daily life” principle, and wishes for everyone wearing these leisure apparels to dedicate themselves in meaningful activities of contribution in their community.
