In Taiwan, after Typhoon Ofelia wiped out Hualien`s Tongmen Village and buried 36 residents in 1990, the village became the first in the nation to relocate due to its proximity to landslide danger zones. Since then, Tongmen villagers have become environmentally conscious of their surroundings, and today, have even enacted a water and soil conservation campaign, to protect the land they call home.

在臺灣，1990年歐菲莉颱風，讓花蓮秀林鄉的銅門部落，釀成土石流重災，活埋了36位村民，這個村落成為全台第一個，因為土石流遷村的部落，因此，銅門村的水土保持，就成了村裡的全民運動，要守護家園。
