Those living in Taiwan’s Kaohsiung are also deeply troubled by pollution just like those living around FPG’s Sixth Naphtha Cracking Plant in Yunlin because Kaohsiung was the birthplace of Taiwan’s petrochemical industries. With the CPC’s Fifth Naphtha Cracking Plant still in operation, 500,000 residents living in surrounding industrial parks are exposed to carcinogenic pollutants, and thus the death by cancer rate here is far higher than the national average.
