Eco friendly & stylish sartorial choices

  • Print

The Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show, is a three-day event that started Wednesday. Among the 300 or more exhibitors from all over the world, Da Ai Technology stood out with its uniquely designed booth, decorated with recycled items, like plastic bottles, old tires, and even newspaper packed tightly together to make chairs. The company showcased its latest recycled textile, that can pass for silk or soft cotton. Designers turned the fabric into stylish Chinese coats and other garments. The company also launched a new line of colorful polo shirts, which instead of using chemical dyes, are colored by a newly patented, more eco-friendly technique.

< Eco-fabrics take center stage >
The black Tang-style coat is light and elegant, tailored in a fabric that most people will have difficulty identifying- few would ever guess that the items coming down the catwalk are all made from recycled plastic bottles fabrics manufactured by Da Ai Technology.

Fashion designer, Zhang Guofu:
The fabric made from "Da Ai thread" has a texture like silk or cotton. I believe recycled synthetic materials can be just as chic as natural materials.

< Da Ai Tech's unique coloring technique >
The yarn retains the color of the plastic bottle, but the fabric gets its black color by mixing the liquefied material with colored plastics called "masterbatch". The same coloring technique was also used on the new polo shirts offered by Da Ai Technology, which mark a style breakthrough from the brand's last line.

Da Ai Technology vice chairperson, Huang Huade:
We didn't want to dye our fabrics, so we had to innovate new coloring techniques to make the textile seem like it has been dyed. The research and development involved was a painstaking process, but we did it.

< Jumping on the eco-bandwagon >
At the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show, many fashion designers have jumped on the eco-bandwagon, experimenting with earth-friendly choices, using textiles with minimal petrochemical dyes, or woven from alternative fibers, like bamboo. The expo brings home the message that the environment doesn't have to be compromised to achieve beauty and style.

Those who cherish blessings will create blessings. Those who create blessings are truly spiritually wealthy.
