澎湖學生環保Recycling begins on campus in Penghu

The National Penghu Marine and Fishery Vocational High School collaborates with Tzu Chi volunteers to promote recycling around the campus. After recycling with the volunteers, students learned that recycling can only be effective if everyone can rinse the recyclables clean before discarding them.

Typically, March is monsoon season in Taiwan. However, the rain was minimal last month and did nothing to fill up the country’s thirsty reservoirs, thus the government has begun enforcing water rationing in several areas. Before we check on the students at the affected Liyuan Elementary in Linkou of New Taipei City, we first travel to the Zengwen Reservoir in Tainan to understand the severity of the water shortage problem and its cause.

We begin the second part of our program with Tzu Chi stories in Taiwan. Students who attend Tzu Chi schools learn about selfless giving from a young age. In Tainan, a group of Da Ai Kindergartners brought cleaning supplies over to the local Jing Si Hall to help keep the place dust free. Meanhile second and third graders in the elementary division of Tzu Chi Senior High School Affiliated with Tzu Chi University in Hualien hit the streets to clean up their environment.

In the past, the city produced 100 tons of trash per day, but now the number has been reduced to 52 tons a day thanks to the citizens working together towards bettering the environement. 與水共生(3)河殼菜蛤The golden mussel

Taiwan’s reservoirs are not only troubled by sedimentation but also the invasion of a non-native species- the golden mussel. As the mussels grow quickly and are small in size, they can easily block the flow of water by building colonies along canals and gateways. 大愛『心』設計 落實『心』生活

在生活中如何落實環保？選擇採用環保訴求的生活用品，可以讓自己在消費的同時也體恤大地。大愛感恩科技針對於產品設計的特色區分出許多系列，主要為：傳薪、修賢、心芽、心品四大系列。大愛感恩科技成立滿六週年，產品不但追求環保、品質，也追求實用性。設計部資深設計師 廖惠玲師姊在《點亮心光》環保愛地兒單元 訪問中提到：「大愛感恩提倡環保低碳生活概念，將環保商品取代日常生活用品，將商品融入慈濟人文故事，提昇品質，增加商品功能性及實用性，讓商品有人文價值和生命力，不再只是單純的商品，主要的價值觀是：回收資源再生『續物命』，將物資用於需要的人『造福慧』，商品不只是商品，是愛的呈現。」
其中，今天特別介紹心品系列，此系列分成四大類: 慈悲科技類、旅人善行袋包類、居家用品類、家飾織物類。慈悲科技商品加入許多科技的設計，像是LED、太陽能、紅外線等。讓商品更實用，同時也是針對賑災而設計，讓志工在賑災時更安全。例如慈濟志工執行賑災與偏鄉發放任務，災區地形險惡，為了保護志工的雙腳，大愛感恩科技設計了一款「防穿刺神奇白鞋」，其研發技術與功能性結合上人智慧與慈悲，是一雙兼具保護雙腳與環保愛地球的布鞋。鞋面、鞋底超輕EVA發泡、橡膠RUBBER組合大底，能吸收衝擊力且耐磨，獨特『排水溝』底紋設計增加止滑效果。達到歐盟標準的防穿刺中底布，能通過約112kg的金屬異物不穿透的測試。加厚及符合腳形的活動鞋墊能分散壓力，久站不易累。
此外，主持人也提到：在大愛感恩從事設計工作，與一般以營利為目的的公司，設計的理念與重點有何不同？廖惠玲師姊也回答：「一般公司注重利潤回收。但大愛感恩著重在品質、功能、實用性，將真正好的商品落實生活裡。公司投資在研發實驗室或是新的布種開發，都是，結合產官學界各方的頂尖專業人士指導，接觸面相當廣泛，是無法與一般公司比擬的。」
大愛感恩科技不僅在環保上不遺餘力，也希望將這份心傳遞給大眾，用「心」的生活思維，落實在生活中，來真正關懷我們的地球。
