In March, the state ministers and ambassadors from the Republic of Kiribati paid a five-day visit to Taiwan, both to share and learn knowledge and skills with Taiwan’s leading companies in different aspects including food, clothing, accommodation and transportation. Acknowledging the social and environmental practices being actively implemented, on the 25th of March, Kiribati’s Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Tiarite Kwong and three other partners specially paid a visit to DA.AI Technology.

The guests took the chance to get to know the current recycling system in Taiwan, DA.AI’s recycling technology, and the importance of practicing environmental protection. (Photo by: Austin Tsai)In order to bring out the greatest implication of coexisting with the Earth, DA.AI Technology specially arranged a series of activities, which first started off with an introduction of DA.AI’s missions and green technology, followed by a catwalk show by our staff showcasing DA.AI’s environmental protection effort in turning waste materials into eco-friendly products filled with humanism, love and warmth. After the show, the visitors of agricultural background were served with special Tzu Chi instant rice and noodles. These instant rice and noodles are tailored for disaster victims, providing them with convenient yet healthy meals. Minister Twong commented that this visit has indeed given him a huge inspiration and he hoped to bring these ideas back and implement locally.

(Photo by: Stewart Chen)“It is a pleasure to meet you, welcome, welcome, we welcome you…” The guests were warmly welcomed by our staff at the door. DA.AI’s English speaker, Tom Yang then introduced them from DA.AI’s history, missions, recycling technology through to the story of the Tzu Chi Foundation, focusing on the philosophy of turning trash into gold, gold into love, and love into a purifying force that encircles the world. After realizing the meaning of “Tzu Chi”, which is “Compassionate Relief” in Chinese, Kiribati Ambassador, Teekoa Iuta was moved, “Looking at how the volunteers selflessly contribute really moves me, what they achieve is not dependent on materials, but tranquility and joy in their minds.” Amazed by how waste materials can be transformed into something so delicate like the Eco Scarf that DA.AI has given as a souvenir, Miss Iuta said that every DA.AI product indeed has a motivating story behind it, and she would like to be part of this circle of love starting by changing the habit of throwing away the plastic bottles after drinking. Hand in hand, we shall do things which are sustainable, so as to leave enough resources for our children.

The Republic of Kiribati is similar to Taiwan in a way that they are both island countries facing serious global warming and climate change problems, such as rising of sea level and landfill issue. Minister Kwong and his partners expressed their gratitude to Master Cheng Yen and countless Tzu Chi members, who, no matter how much obstacles, are still willing to contribute as much love and care, selflessly.
