慈濟50慈濟環保起源

As Taiwan enjoyed its economic boom in the 80s and 90s, obscene amount of trash was also produced due to wastage and lack of recycling. The trash quickly overwhelmed the country`s landfills, while people protested against building more landfills and incinerators. Amidst the conflict, Master Cheng Yen called out to her supporters to actualize Tzu Chi`s environmental mission, which eventually solved the problem and also transformed Taiwan`s people.

1980年到1990年間，臺灣享受經濟繁榮，但也因為浪費與沒有落實環保，讓垃圾量爆炸，讓掩埋場很快就爆滿，同時許多居民也抗議，興建焚化爐、掩埋場，在混亂當中，證嚴上人登高一呼，要支持者落實慈濟的環保志業，不僅解決了問題，也改變了臺灣人的習慣。
