汙水‧活水(2)Working to increase sewage coverage

As we pointed out yesterday, Taiwan’s sewage coverage rate is only 26.76 percent, way less than developed countries and is even lower than some developing countries. Discharging domestic wastewater right into rivers not only causes serious pollution, but also produces foul odors, provides breeding grounds for pests, and spreads communicable disease. This is why the sewage coverage rate is an important index in a country’s competitiveness.
就如我們昨天所提到的，台灣的汙水下水道接管率只有百分之26.76，比已開發國家低很多，甚至比其他開發中國家還低，把生活汙水直接排入河川，不止會造成汙染也會傳出惡臭，助長蚊蟲孳生，傳播疾病，進而影響健康，這也是為什麼汙水下水道接管率是一個國家競爭力的指標。
