It is a common practice in Taiwan for companies to prepare elaborate food offerings and burn large amounts of joss paper during the seventh lunar month to pray for fortune and prosperity. However, entrepreneur and Tzu Chi volunteer Tu Shumin(塗淑敏), has discontinued this practice in her company for four years now. Instead, Tu(塗) encourages her staff members to use the money that would have been used to purchase joss paper to practice good deeds and help those in need.
