On February 11, 2016, Philippines Tzu Chi volunteers Alfredo Li, Xu Ying Ying, and Lin Li Li accompanied the Chairman of De La Salle University, Raymundo Suplido, Vice Chairman Dr. Laurene Chua-Garcia, Vice Present of the Christian School Michael Broughton, and assistant Ronee San Agustin to visit DA.AI Technology. De La Salle University was founded in 1911, it is a first-class Catholic Philippines school, and ranked second among top 500 universities in the country. Moreover, it is a sister school with the Tzu Chi University since April 7th, 2016, and visited Tzu Chi during this trip to better understand its spirit.
DA.AI started its presentation by bringing everyone’s memory back three years ago, when Tzu Chi’s assisted Tacloban City in the Philippines after the great Typhoon Haiyan. Tzu Chi volunteers revived the city through the “Cash for Work” method, and helped the local residents to rebuild their land. It not only helped residents to clean their homes, but also resumed children’s education by providing prefabricated classrooms, and, at the same time, rebuilt damaged schools. Tzu Chi Foundation helped disaster survivors find ways to rebuild their homes, as well as brought new hope to their hearts.
Philippines Tzu Chi volunteer Alfredo Li shared that DA.AI’s eco blankets have been distributed to people in need during winter distributions and disaster relief missions around the world, benefitting more than 950,000 people and families. Through innovative research, DA.AI carried on the mission of delicate eco-textile and sustainable environment. Chairman Raymundo Suplido felt that "in the field of research and development, if our Department of Engineering and Science can cooperate with DA.AI Technology, it should be very interesting and meaningful! The students would realize that the direction of research and development is not for personal benefit, but for the benefit of others to protect our environment and the Earth.”
