Although we can’t personally be in Kaohsiung to contribute our strength, all of our hearts go to the people there. (Photo by: Ken Lin)On the late evening of July 31st, a series of blast struck the silence of Kaohsiung City, and immediately, few of the city’s major streets were covered in fire. This severe gas explosion accident has blown away many citizens’ homes, hopes, and lives. Under the sadness of losing their co-workers when trying to save others, the Kaohsiung firefighters fulfilled their mission to look for survivors, as well as digging out the deceased ones, until the very end. Tzu Chi volunteers, also with a strong mission to aid and give comfort to the needy, started mobilization few hours after the incident from all over Taiwan to provide hot food, door-to-door visit, and Great Love to survivors, victim’s families, and officers at the scene.

Horrifying accidents remind us to pay attention to each of our thought, and that we should always contribute and help each and every person to create a circle of love. Combining the love and blessing from everyone’s heart, let’s hope the survivors and families to walk out of sorrow soon, and the deceased ones to rest in peace.” Dharma Master Cheng Yen stated soon after the disaster, and hope for everyone to contribute what they can to help Kaohsiung to rebuild.

Many of the managers and employees from different department not only made donation themselves, but also asked relatives to make contributions as well, wish to maximize the power of love and send it off to the southern Taiwan.

Although it hasn’t been a quiet summer in Taiwan, but all the disasters certainly reminds us to cherish what we have, especially safety and great health, and contribute while we can to the ones not as fortunate. Taiwan is filled with goodness and love, and hopefully we can change the world together with such power.
